Dear Sheryl,
See the mail in RED below from Rich Scotti (Bentley Consulting Services Manager) about the future course of action from Bentley about supporting AutoCAD for AutoPLANT. So you don't have to worry about AutoCAD not supported. Even though if you have any concern then please contact Rich@Scotti.com.

So let's set the record straight on the Bentley products:
Bentley may be mostly known as the MicroStation company to some. Bentley
also developed or acquired several products used to design plants
(including
piping).
We also are working towards interoperability between our products. We'd
stop
just short of the word "merge" as we have two happy user communities and
don't want to loose anything in translation. We can further confirm that
a
direct MicroStation port of AutoPLANT is not in the works. Rather we are
focusing on integration of our products with each other instead of
replacing
one with another. It would be better for the users if the data were
interchangeable (including catalogs and specs) but each application
took
the best advantages of each CAD platform. Beware a least common
denominator
solution.
We are also busy developing new interoperability with other formats
(this
too was mentioned in a previous post).
In addition to the products mentioned Bentley also provides products to
manage drawings and data, walkthru and interference detection, other
design
applications, civil, roadways, architectural, etc.
Rant over for now.
Regards,
Rich Scotti

Thanks, I have done so. Do you use it? I learned it long ago, before
Bentley bought it up. Now, AutoCAD will not support it, which is a
concern
with my boss. =)

Subject: [PipingDesign] 3D Pipe Design Software
I work for a small consulting design firm. We specialize in water and wastewater treatment plant design, specifically microfiltration and reverse osmosis systems. Currently, we (the 2 piping designers) do all our plant design drawings in 2D, AutoCAD 2000i. Our plant designs use Stainless Steel, Carbon Steel, PVC, CPVC, and FRP piping. We need a software program that is compatible with AutoCAD, and need the ability to share 2D files with other design firms. I am seeking information from users of 3D software programs, who can tell us what they like and don't like about the software they use. Thanks!
