An artifice like this probably makes some sense to in clude the weight of
the fitting, but there's no way to verify Code compliance that way. Rules
for those fittings are a lot more like rules for assessing flanges--not
the same of course but about as much different from stresses in an
ordinary pipe wall as you can get.
