If your doubt was regarding fluid flow direction then the answer is as
follows:
Fluid flows from higher energy state to lower energy state.
we are considering any point on higher energy state side from any
observation point is upstream.
if point is lower energy state side from any observation point downstream.
these terms are frequently used in energy gradient lines.
