Rod hangers?

Hi !

            Can any one please tell me at what conditions we have to use "spring hangers" and at what conditions we have to go for " Rod hangers". And what is the normal acceptable length of the Rod in Rod hanger. How much angle of swing we can allow in Rod hangers. And what is the design criteria for rod hangers.
