Paul,
Rod hanger
It is a simple case of transfer of clean vertically
acting load. I mean clean in the sense that it does
not have any torsion or bending. In such a case, the
generally accepted range of tilt is a cone angle of 4
degrees with respect to the vertical. This facilitates
a little amount of displacements in the axial or
lateral directions.
Spring hanger
It is used when the load to be supported is generally
of constant nature. It could be borne by a constant
one or a variable one. Constant spring hangers are
expensive and for that reason general preference, to
the extent possible, is in favour of variable spring
hangers. They are made with deflection ranges, 0 to 12
mm; 12 to 24 mm and 24 to 36 mm.
There are various executions of them; hanging from
top, pedestal type, twin type etc. depending on the
application.
Anything more? Please ask.
Good luck!
