Dear Mr Steve (or should that be shagger),
With respect to the Pipeline book that I wrote you about it would appear that one of Amazon's sellers has stiffed us on supply. This is annoying from several aspects (money, time and reimbursement) although it may not be all bad. Al recons that it is a bit of a dust gatherer so I may order something else and perhaps review this and provide you with some unqualified dribble, doesn't help you short term though.
Further to your interest as to what software we use? I was unaware that this is a new name for paper, pencil and rubber (eraser to some, and no it is not a prophylactic). I do believe I have a spare set here that I can mail you if you would kindly provide your postal address. Seriously though we do use software in our design work and it is actually developed and supported by your guys at Lincoln Uni. in Christchurch (Irricad). You should remember that we are irrigation design people and as such only on the odd occasion we have jobs that have large flows or distances involved.
We have some good working relationships with valve and pipe suppliers and involve these people in the larger jobs as they have the necessary software and spit out results from the information we provide. This trust has been built up over a number of years although when we do use this facility we grill them on any aspect that we believe does not feel right. We have found some errors (very few though) and these have been picked up prior to any construction drawings or text being released for tender.
I am sorry that I have not replied till now, we have had a landline problem with our Telco company and it has only now been rectified. We have been on and off line for just on a week now, their excuse was water in their trunk cable. After seeing some of their cable jointing efforts I would not like these guys terminating a drop cable on one of our submersible jobs.
Cheers for now,
Robin
P.S. I am interested in the pipeline, tree thing.
