M Danish:

we generally use flat faced carbon steel flanges with a full face soft gasket (rubber or teflon). a raised face flange puts too much strain on the flat faced PVC flange. and it's hard to get a standard gasket to seal with the PVC flange. the PVC isn't much harder than the gasket. we also are sure to use bolt kits designed for PVC with oversize washers.
