Hi Robin
do you really colour code buried pipelines? If so, do you use neon signs
on the above ground ones?
Is it possible to buy colour keyed Denso tape - yet? If so, I would
recommend a sky blue base with a pinstripe for fresh water, and a dark
green with brown fleck for wastewater. This, of course, assumes that all
tradesmen wear overalls of aubergine with highlights picked out in
saffron, shot through with a vermillion trace and steel caps are
frosted chrome finish, but burnished to mirror finish at the
extremities.
Normally, separation of buried pipes is determined by code. Where soil
is free draining and pipes are large, Rajendra Bajikar's suggestion is
similar to some codes. Rajendras flag re cross-contamination is the
major concern. Drains are normally gravity flow and need to be graded,
so they are normally installed first and at a lower level than other
services.
I would talk to the local authorities first.
Cheers
Steve

cckla,
Most of our standards deal with buried piping and as I recall as long as the clearance between pipes is at a minimum of 300mm, plus the required width for pipe bedding, I think you shall be fine. This is somewhat dependant as to the level of contamination risk as to the various pipelines which should be colour coded so as to identify their contents, eg.- effluent water will have black coloured piping, water will be jade, oils- brown and so the list goes on.
Cheers,
Robin
