the way you mentioned for PDS is same for PDMS, they are very similar PDS as you know uses Oracle so it has a very powerful database, the major difference between them is about PDS is american and PDMS is a british software so to be honest, it is matter of your client and environment which will tell you which software you should use, if they are using PDS you'd better use PDS, none of them are Autocad base, Autoplant from former Rebis and Cadpipe from COADE are cad base but PDMS and PDS are not cad base and you know PDS needs microstation. if you need anything else let me know, hope this helps

PDS is the Microstation based software for piping modeling.
PDMS is also for piping modeling purpose which supports AUTO-CAD or Auto-Cad based software.

This software is not only piping modeling but also for structural modeling like, piperacks, equipments.

In brief with PDS & PDMS you can do plant modeling where you can see all the facilities.

After you develop your model, you can see your model in 3-D, 2D, front view, top view, etc.

With PDS and PDMS, you can do piping modeling by which you can generate

1. Piping Plans
2. Piping Isometrics
3. Material summary
4. Interference check/clash with electrical, struture

etc.
5. SAUDI ARAMCO and it's Contractor use PDS software.
