Not much new this time due to real work demands and too much time spent joking around on this list. The "Engineering Page" link is carried over because I promised Wim that I'd feature his site for more than one cycle.

Click through to the pages mentioned below via pipingdesign.com's "Current Interesting Links" feature at the main page (these links are also archived at the topic-specific Piping Design Central for future reference).

<<The P&ID is a set of drawings that describe a “process;” for ammonia
refrigeration, the refrigeration system and its ancillary equipment are considered the process. (This contrasts with the common usage in food plants, where the food is “processed” and the refrigeration system is “just a utility.”)>>

What is Friction in a Pump System
Fluide Design Inc.

<<Another cause of friction is all the fittings (elbows, tees, y's, etc)
required to get the fluid from point A to B. Each one has a particular effect on the fluid streamlines. For example in the case of the elbow, the fluid particles that are closest to the tight inner radius of the elbow lift off from the pipe surface forming small vortexes that consume energy. This energy loss is small for one elbow but if you have several elbows and other fittings they can become significant. Generally speaking they rarely represent more then 30% of the total friction due to the overall pipe length.>> Received on Wed Mar 02 20:33:00 2005
