In my case, I used to sand to a chisel point to make really fine lines and sharpen the lead in the compasses (and sometimes tear through the vellum), not for lettering.

I miss those pencil-twirling days. The drafters were unique in the office world with their neat tools/toys and gadgets, specialized furniture and stuff.

Now all we have to play with is powerful computers, multiple large monitors, expensive software and 3D models.
