"- MTO reports. Can't the software detect, fuzzy-logically, that 4 extra millimetres on a 45' run is not worthy of note for a plus/minus calculation?"
I am begining to learn the threads of the Intergraph Marian material management software. The software is intended for the creation of pipe classes, MTOs, purchase requisitions and eventual material control at site. The system runs on Oracle and operates from multi locations on a network.
Having set up MTO data bases in MS Access and a brush with the SAP ERP, I think, I should be able to understand the logics of the system.
I am at the pipe class creation module. The user interface of the software are not user friendly. To enter an item in the pipe class the correspoding code (number) is to be found and entered. To do this, excel lists, of groups of items, such as pipes, fittings and others are extracted from the system. This excel list is look up' ed for the appropriate description for the class and the corresponding code is copied and pasted into the system field. These item descriptions with a corresponding code in the system, are to be system entered before the piping classificaton can begin. I would have liked this task to have been done by the user interface itself. By selecting a few key parameters, the selction should limit itself to a few items only. This way, it makes it easier to enter and less likely to create an error.
There are quite a few bugs in the user input triggers. Such as the one, on the size range for an Item. If there is an overlap of the size range for a given item then it triggers an error message. Even if you correct the range, the error message does not go off. The only way out is to exit without saving and restart the module. Making you redo what ever, that you have done until then.
These and other bugs and inconsistancies are identified by other users and super users. They become learning points in the training material as to how to circumvent them. I am too low down the hierarchy, to know, if there is any problem reporting to Intergraph or their resolve to fix it.
Wonder how other people who are using this or similar software are faring?
