Howdy
Cant help you with a Code upper limit (AWWA may be worth a look)but note
you make mention of building services. For building services, we
normally run a little larger than the economic diameter for reasons of
(among others) noise control. If you are looking at high velocities in a
building, look carefully at noise requirements as they can bite; I got
bitten by a library. The problems of water hammer and pressure
regulation you will already be aware of.
I am currently running some PE gravity mains at 4.5 - 5 m/s (have head
to burn, but flows arent large enough to justify any form of
regeneration)without problems, but there are no valves or branches.
Cheers
Steve

Subject: [PipingDesign] Code Velocity Maximums Plastic Pipe Materials
Please advise what Code limits there are for the use of plastic pipe materials in building services. I am not looking for generalisations or manufacturers ideas but hard and fast clauses that may appear in a specification.
The situation I have is where energy costs a fraction of what it does in the USA and therefore the NPV of Capex and Opex is different. So generalisations of maximum velocites are meaningless.
