RE: Inch.Dia

I used DIA-IN under the following scenario:

I know all my piping diameters and lengths (i.e. 1" through 36") from ISO's and surveys. In the IFB package, we requested from contractors costs for each piping system. Each piping system may consist of different piping size.

Design changes are inevitable during construction and commissioning, so In order to know the contractor's cost for change orders, In the IFB package, under unit cost, instead of requesting a cost for a weld/X-ray/Coating joint/etc for each pipe size, we typically lump them all in one category, example:

1a. Cost for girth weld ...................$___5________/dia-in (add)

1.b Cost for girth weld ..................$___4________/dia-in (delete)

2.a Cost to FBE coat pipe joint .......$____3_______/dia-in (add)

2.b Cost to FBE coat pipe joint ...$_____2.5______/dia-in (delete)

(the costs for each line items are filled by the bidders with their bids for the project prior to contract award).

So to add a 30" weld the cost would be: 30" x 3.14 * 5 = $471

to add a 4.5" weld the cost would be: 4.5" x 3.14 * 5 = $71

to delete a 30" weld the cost would be: 30" x 3.14 * 4 = $376.

Typically, the difference between add and delete represents the contractor's profit. Ethically, when deleting a weld, the contractor's total profit from the contract should not be affected.

This is just my humble opinion.

for estimation stage we can consider by this way. we have pipes 6M, 12m long for shop fabrication,in iso or ga we can mark fittings, so we consider for pipes, fittings based on total length.
