The concern expressed here is not clear.
In refineries we do have quite a high temp. lines, operating much above 500 F. We have a 'shoe'pad fillet welded at bottom side to take care of abrasion /corrosion from support wedges. Where the line is insulated (most of the lines at such temp. will be), an inverted T type support will be welded to the shoe pad. This will ensure that insulation won't be damaged at support location. The welding of inverted T support to shoe pad will ensure that in case of any eventuality of support getting stuck somewhere, the load will be transfrred to the shoe support only and the pipe won't get damaged. Similarly for hanging clamp support.
We have not experienced much galling etc.
