As I grew (and grow) in my career I have worked with many individuals
some like Chris Wright and some like Jack Osborn - I would rather work
with the Chris Wright's any day - yes they are blunt, maybe even
inappropriate at times but I have appreciated their guidance and I don't
ever think any offense was truly intended - more likely just a message
like "sit your lazy ass down and do some research" - point taken -
engineering is all about learning - continuous learning. There is no
excuse for emails that begin with "tell me everything" - the people
writing them are LAZY and INCOMPETENT. However we all start out as
incompetent engineers - so I guess it is our job to be supportive.
I am really taking offense to Mr. Osborn's continued harassment of Mr. Wright - you had your say now let it go - VERY VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.
As for how to deal with the question of these "tell me everything emails" - I would like to suggest that maybe we could compile an email which could be a blanket response to messages which are too vague to answer effectively. It could take the form of:

Piping and Equipment Vendors and Suppliers are also great sources of information - most provide manuals in PDF format on the internet and will often provide hard copies of catalogs and reference materials free of charge.
This is a fantastic list - I don't always have the time to review it regularly but I find it to be a fantastic resource.
Thanks to everyone.

Subject: Re: [PipingDesign] List Moderation Discussion
Hi Paul.....welcome back!
how 'bout we ask Chris to write something for us? (just teasing Chris....hope you are smiling a little!) I guess I've never really understood why it is necessary that we address each and every question or comment from new people. For the most part, someone in the group takes it upon themselves to provide commentary and this usually provides grist for the mill, so to speak. I think that for those comments and questions that come in and that seem either vague, not well understood, or just plain written poorly, we can let them just sit there, if no one is willing to try to engage the questioner. I guess I see no harm in that.
But, I'm open to your suggestions, that seems mighty neighborly of you to provide a welcome note with tips on how to handle this crowd. It's your group and your webpage. Or....maybe we have em' watch a Monty Python movie....just so they'll understand where our hearts are at.....smile.....
thanks again Paul for providing a great site and a place to interact.....
Jack
