Reading the original note, I believe the question is on the formal term, which
should be hydrostatic test. But careful about the interpretation there -
originally, testing was most likely done with water. But with all the chemicals
which may be flowing in a line, water is not necessarily the test medium for
applying pressure. Example, you probably would not want to test a line which
would carry acids with water - any test medium which may remain in the line must
be compatible with the product which will be carried. Or else, you must have a
very elaborate dewatering procedure, to assure that none is left.
