There is also the issue of a butt fusion welding machine down a trench that may be full of water. Water and electricity dont mix.
Thats why I have gone for ABS instead over the years. Whether its solvent welded or a rubber ring jonted system its a reliable product that has good internal and external corrosion resistance. The low modulus helps with the waterhammer mtigation too.
Buried salt water fire protection systems are an application where it excels.
