Posted. never seen a company dictates the replacement of all gaskets after the hydrotest.

My Take. Does the Code prevent anyone from replacing ALL the gaskets after the hydro? If not, then the owner of the plant can do so if they so desire. Sure it'll cost more and downtime will be longer but that is another issue.

Posted. Are you willing to introduce 300 bpd of product into a piping system that
  the gaskets were not tested for tighteness.

My Take. If its prior to startup/commissioning I agree. But if we're talking about a piping system that is already in-service and no history of leak/failure and has not been modfied in anyway I say why not. We dont hydro all the process piping after a major turnaround. We just cant. So far so good considering that we produce tons of petrochem products and process several nasties chemicals (the kind that harm people) every year. Received on Tue Sep 06 04:07:00 2005
