Been in the piping business for a very l ong time. never come across a
flange joint failure due to the removal of the temporary strainer (assuming
that the joint was properly made up). Startup strainer is just that - for
startup.
If you guys Got a chance, visit an on going plant construction or better yet a plant that is in full swing. Observe how a pipefitter do a flange joint. Take a closer look where the joint is near an equipment. Better yet visit a plant that is ISO cert or has just won some sort of "we're the best of the best" type of an award. Rigger and pipefitter rules with the support of the engineer and all the piping designer could do is just watched. Ahh life at the real world.
