unfortunately the cost of steel is cheap (and we are very wasteful) , something i hear over and over which misses the point....Shutdown and labour is not cheap.

Ive been involved a number of times in major turnaorund and shutdowns and i can tell u that the cost of steel is not cheap. the use of qualified boilermaker/pipefitter and welder is not cheap either. the same goes with cost of rework. maintaining the documentations like the work package, the mill certs will cost u arm and leg. In shutdown/turnaround the concern is not labor but rather the timeline.

The real issue is not really wether its cheap or not but rather wether its economically viable or not. Its all about the ROI. But just the same, reason why we engineer something like pipework and vessel is to eliminate waste. Received on Mon Sep 12 01:29:00 2005
