for simple task/manpower scheduling - the use of Primavera might be an overkill. The learning curve isnt easy too and theyre not cheap either. If youre looking for a software that will determine the critical path,provide uou with an update, compare your actual againts the baseline, track the activities, print the timeline/barchart then MS Project will do the job.

MS Excel can also be setup actually to track work progress and do the barchart.
