For those who dont have the money the buy the software, then get hold of some good books that deals with Piping. A lot of charts and tables are available in Piping Guide and Process Plant Layout & Piping Design.

Paper, pencil, triangles, templates plus a good drafting table plus the 2 books ive mentioned and a spreadsheet software - one should be OK. If you can get hold of the slide rule for fittings/valves dimension then youre set.
