Re: Outer Ring SW Gasket

Could be the sealing element portion of the spiral wound sealed just fine but it is in a corrosive environment. The standard material for the outer ring of a spiral wound gasket is plated or painted carbon steel. Higher grade metals are available on request such as stainless, hastelloy, inconel, etc.

Dear Guys ;

Do you have experience or knowledge what would happen is outer ring of
SW gasket is very badly corroded or even completely gone ? As I
understand the purpose of the outer ring is for center alignment,
compression stop and anti blowout device. But for the third reason, I
believe some defect must've been experienced at the spiral wound first.
If the spiral wound is still in a good shape, would it be blown out or
leaking ? Any experience with this situation ? How to assess the
condition of corroded gasket ?
Thanks !!"
