Further can I add that in case of water we take at the pump suction velocity as 0.8 m/sec, whereas in discharge we take the value as 1.75 m/sec( in case of SS pipes the velocity can further be taken upto 2 - 2.5 m/sec).
Basically it depends on the fluid handled, MOC of piping, pressure, friction factors...

Normally in Main Lines : 4-8 m/sec
Main distribution Lines : 8 -10 m/sec
Nozzle end velocity :15-40 m/sec depending upon various limitation
