Hi Sorraya,

The applicable code or standard will depend upon the country that you are in and the water authority.

For instance here in Australia we have the following applicable Codes and Standards:

    WSAA 03 Water Supply Code
AS 3500 National Plumbing and Drainage Code     AS 2566 Buried Flexible Pipelines standard     AS 4041 pressure piping code
AS 2280 Ductile iron pipe standard
    AS 3518 ABS standard
    AS 1477 PVC-U standard
    AS 4130 PE standard
AS 1579 Arc Welded Steel pipe for Water & Waste Water     Other material standards for GRP, PVC-O and PVC-M etc etc

The design requirements depend upon the industry that you work and the contract that you are working under. Water, like air, is universal and different industries adopt different Codes and Standards. We dont all work in petrochem alone and ASME B31.3 is not the panacea for all design.

Your design may be allowable stress or % yield stress based. If the pipeline is buried you will have to consider the soil/pipe structure for stres, strain, combined loading deflection and buckling from pressure, vacuumm, super imposed static and dynamic loads.

You have not given enough information in your question and are liable to receive the wrathe of Forum members for this fact. So in future please answer Rudyard Kipling's simple questions Who, What, Where, Why, When and How when posing a question. I hope you learn from this experience and benefit from the Forum.
