I misunderstood the problem because my spam filter was catching the junk email and I would never see it.

Chris emailed me and pointed out what was going on, it should now be fixed. This is a risk of having an open membership, and it looks like somebody subscribed in March using an email address that was actually an address to request membership for another list (although I was unable to determine that such a mailing list actually exists). I guess some people don't have anything better to do with their time than to annoy others.

The PipingDesign list was changed back to closed membership status last week, so this is unlikely to happen again.

PS By the way, there were 500 messages to this list in September, which is a huge increase in activity.
