I think that the current generation being taught that you have to be a "leader" has created expectations that cant be fulfilled and frustration of a high level. All this lederrship garbage comes from the MBAs. They probaly feel inferior and want everyone to be like them toi justify their mystical position in life. What we need is "followers'. Where would JC have been everybody was like him and no followers? Chaos! 50 billion religious leaders and cults all doing different things. Sounds like a modern CAD office doesnt it!

Think of all the great leaders of history. They would have been nothing without dedicated followers.

So come you managers and MBAs how about masses of courses, workshops, lectures and encouragement for the great unwashed to become good followers and the leaders will emerge by natuaral attrition.

A good read of rthe subject is "Machivelli and Business" by Anthony Jay (co writer of Yes Prime Minister; British humour again)

I think that you are correct in that evaluation, George.

It now sucks to start at the bottom and having a management degree (dammit!) virtually guarantees that you won't have to deal with yuchy stuff like dirty welders or engineers that have to wear those silly hats.
