Hi Alex
Thanks for the suggestions.
I will have a look at thunderbird. However it’s a little difficult to
find the time and there are definite advantages in using the same
software as most of my clients.
Cheers
Steve
Hi Steve,
Since you have lost your email and you're ready for a new start, why not try installing/using Mozilla Thunderbird and throwing away both Outlook Express and Outlook for a change?
Thunderbird is free (both as in beer and as in freedom), open source, makes use of open standards (unlike M$) for archiving messages (a variant of the mbox file format, that is much more portable, easier to manage and backup), usually less buggy (even if you do find a bug or need help, there are plenty of volunteers at the mozillazine.org forums willing to help you) and has a lot more features that you may find useful.
Have you tried to recover the deleted file by using any undelete tools/software? It's quite impossible for a small file to have COMPLETELY overwritten a much larger one, so parts of the deleted file should be retrievable in raw form (although perhaps unusable, due to the proprietary file format that MS outlook uses for storing messages - here's another good reason to drop Outlook). Perhaps you should also look for a company/business near you that SPECIALIZES in retrieving deleted data or data from damaged hard disks. Note though that (unfortunately) they probably charge per MB retrieved and yes, they charge a lot.
Regards,
Alex.
