The Double block and bleed (refered to as DBB) arrangement is achieved by provision of two isolation points (either two separate block valves or a single block valve having two seats, each of which makes a seal) with a tapping point located between them. The DBB arrangement is used for two applications:

1.       For energy isolation purpose.
2.       For preventing contamination purpose,

The DBB arrangement is used to achieve energy isolation from the live system for equipment & instruments maintenance. The DBB is one of the method to achieve initial valved isolation. Initial valved isolation is most often used to maintain containment while positive isolation is being made.

       Diffferent companies have different pactices for this purpose. e.g BP Pakistan uses RP 44-10 for DBB specification & arrangement. It defines requirement of DBB arrangement for energy isolation purpose at different pressure and temperature conditions.

Any idea what Int'l Code or Regulation that covers requirement of double block and bleed isolation for equipment maintenance ? They preferably applicable Internationaly such API, ISO, OSHA, etc. But UKOOA,BS, EN, NORSOK also considerable.
