V. Krishna:

Assuming that the proper valves, fittings and other components of a piping system are properly selected, they will have much higher pressure ratings than the pipe or especially the connections. Therefore those components will not fail a pressure test. The purpose of the pressure test to to verify integrity and pressure rating of the system. The pressure test conditions of individual components should be higher. Follow B31.3.

Re: [PipingDesign] Pneumatic test for llines at site

Generally it is common practice to exclude valves from Pipeline pressure testing.
If at all you want do a pressure test for valves, similer spec valves (i.e. same class & material) shall be connectd together (Flange to flange) and do the pressure test as recommended by the valve vendor or as per project spec.

Hi,
As per ASME B 31.3 the pneumatic test pressure sahll be 110% of line design pressure. But the valves to be pneumatically tested are tested at max of 7 bar as per API 598.In this case what will be the test pressure for piping.
Can somone explain.

Thanks & Regards
