Bruce & other who wrote similer mails,
Why you guys are so hard on a fresher..Do you guys know a conept called
"advise"?
Your son/daughter will ask you the same when he/she has no clue about something.
What people in forum has to do is...either give advise..or shut up considering
the question is too lame...someone else will answer..
However lame question it may be, it is not a stupid question...Seeking advise is good thing rather than taking bad decessions. Dont try to dishearten a fresher...
& Bruce...
Dont conclude anything by one mail....even in life..dont do such a thing..
Also he is seeking advise to prepare for his job...thats really good thing..how
maany people do that ?
Also he said he is going to design field...he did not say that right away he is
starting designing a Rocket...
Everyone starts as a fresher...Do you think no one enters design field as a
fresher...
Only thing is a fresher will get a very premitive design jobs under guidence...
For other...
I repete....
What people in forum has to do is...either give adviseor answer..or SHUTUP
considering the question is too lame...someone else will answer..

Based on your questions, I conclude that you did not select mechanical engineering as your major in school, but someone else did. Or you selected it because it was something you could do to earn a decent living, but you have no passion or greate desire. Therefore, since you are asking others to select your field, anything will do, as it is not important to you which one is best for you.
The "homework" you need to do is to kindly ask mechanics, welders, pipefitters and/or millwrights if they will allow you to follow them around as they do their jobs and tell you what they are doing, and what stupid design mistakes to avoid. If they develop a trust in you, consider asking them if they will allow you to carry their tools for them, and then later learn to use some basic tools.
By the way, I would NEVER hire a new graduate to do design work, unless he was a craftsman before he went to school. I would consider hiring a new grad to do drafting, and then, if he showed promise, send him to maintenance or construction for a few years to learn from craftsman.
