I once worked at a consulting firm that hired interns during the summer.....but also hired interns from a local college that had a five year program, with one year of internship. The one year was split into two intern sessions.....a five month and a seven month. The students would try to get a different internship for each session. No school....just a working internship. I thought it worked out well for the students. They got the chance to work alongside engineers in a couple of different industries.....
