Paul - As always client specifications have priority in all design aspects - The last 3 projects I have worked on have all had the bottom flat reducer with drain valve as an option. as far as 2 drains, also specs take precedence but operations / maintenance groups normally specify preference for drain valves in both sides of CV's, especially in globe body type ..This allows liquid removal prior to maintenance without "manually stroking" an actuator to open the valve body & allow draining from only 1 side.

Lately I've been seeing that welding these drains onto FOB reducers is a no-no.

Usually two drains are required if the valve is fail-closed, no?
