methodology for pipe size calculation

Which factor is considered to be important while pipe size calcution.

  Ex; Q= Av

      how to assume allowable velocity
      I will get NB of pipe
      Then I will slect std one

I dont know whether Pr. drop is assumed or vel

But Pr. drop is decided by process people.
