Hey Paul.
The company I previously worked for on two different occasions, for a total of 9 years had gotten ISO 9001 certified many years back. I remember them going through all kinds of hoops for like 4-5 months preparing for audits and all that. Me, being the Applications Drafter asked them repeatedly what they needed from me since I was the ONLY drafter in that department. They kept telling me they needed nothing. Time came and went, we got certified, I never had to turn anything in, I never gotten audited (and we were getting audited internally like every 3 months, and ISO audited randomly, roughly every 9-10 months.
I can only assume they provided our drafting standards for the ISO certification and attached an "exception" to it, stating "but our standards may vary based on client specifications" or something along those lines.
You know, I take back my statement about never being approached, once on an internal audit, they asked me about where I saved my files on the network, who I turned hardcopies to, and he eyeballed my cubicle to make sure I had "FOR REFENCE ONLY" stamped in red on any charts, graphs or sample drawings on my desk (which wasn't many).
As far as the people there doing P&ID's now go, I know their standards haven't changed, but the designers in the Projects group have since gone to using AutoPlant instead of standard AutoCAD, so they're doing all 3D now and NEVER do 2D anymore. So those guys' standards have definitely changed and from what I have heard it was a seamless transition.
And as for the deliverables, we send them CAD files for the job I'm working on now since they have an engineering building on site, so they print out as needed, but if we ever have to turn hardcopies over, they're always 24x36.
Whew.you're not going to banish me now. J
