Sir,

The purpose of the rubber to take up any surface imperfections in the FRP. I have seen systems without such rubber inserts and the system performs as well. Alternatively the rubber is to stop scratching the FRP surface if the FRP pipe were to move relative to a steel pipe support. It is not for corrosion prevention.

Flange connection is generally flat faced with either an O ring or full face gasket.

Reference standards BS 7159 , ISO 14692 or ISO 10639.
