I have been in the oil nad gas industry for the past 11 years.I agree with
is said here, regarding experienced pipers/designers and 3d cad/pdms
operators.I'll give a good example. About two months ago, we were bidding
for a massive offshore project here in Asia. The central platform was
unusually large and it had to be broken up into modules (as one of the
alternative ways to ease offshore installation). There were about 8-10
modules all together with the dimension of each approximately 22m L x 13m H
x 15mW. As had been always associated with modules, piping design work was
a nightmare to everyone, as piping tie work has to be minimised between
modules in order to ease expensive and time consuming offshore hookup work.
Beside commercial issues, there are als other technical issues to furhter
complicate the matter such as requirementsfor offshore hydrotesting,
welding, three degree of freedom, alignment, etc, etc.
Such work require experienced pipers and designers, no matter how good the 3d software operator maybe. Softwares do not solve these problems. After saying all these, every company requires a team of good management personnel, who are also good in technical issues and those who could understand the difference between 3d softwares, cad operators and good piping designers. They are all different. Received on Sat Oct 23 22:19:00 1999
